Washington Funeral

My trip to Washington went really well. It was so great to see so much family and catch up on each other’s lives. The funeral service was very nice. There were many people who showed up for the viewing and paid their respects to the family. Grandpa looked so good and peaceful. We were sad to see him go but happy that he was no longer in any pain. It’s wonderful to think that he has reunited with so many family members including his wife who passed away seventeen years ago. What’s even more great is that he made it in time for her birthday!

Family waiting for the viewing to start.

The funeral was conducted by the Bishop. Hal Richmond gave the family prayer and Brent Bair gave the opening prayer. Following was Dixie Bair who read Grandpa’s obituary. Joyce Richmond, Milton Petersen and Lyle Bair gave wonderful talks. There were two beautiful musical numbers given by Nadine Adams and a male quartet. The benediction was given by Jay Petersen. Afterwards the relief society provided a very yummy dinner. Once everything was over some of the family went and visited Steven Bair’s (my cousin) grave. I still can’t believe he has passed away.

Putting the casket back in the car.

The rest of my visit was great. I love spending time with family and hearing old stories about my relatives. In the evenings we would have caramel popcorn and watch movies. We also watched some videos of Grandpa playing his organ and cutting quilts. He was such a cute grandpa!

Saturday night and Sunday morning did not go as well as I had hoped. I was up all night throwing up and sick as a dog by morning. The down fall was I had to get on a plane that morning. The last thing you want to do is get on a plane when you are nauseated. Thanks to a wondrous pill Dixie Bair gave me and a blessing I received by Lyle Bair and Hal Richmond I was able to make to San Francisco without throwing up again. That night Matthew got off work early to take care of me. He was such a sweet husband. He cleaned the house and cooked my chicken noodle soup. He took such good care of me! Today I am feeling much better and I think what I had was food poisoning. Never again is it something I want to experience.
