I think it's time for another update.

Just a few months into the year and so much has happened...

Matthew left Goldman Sachs back in February. I know! Can you believe it?! We thought we were lifers at GS. Back in the fall he was approached by Sequoia Capital who gave us an opportunity we just couldn't pass up. This was one of the most difficult decisions we have made. Matthew was in a very good spot at GS and wasn't even looking around for other opportunities. He was happy and thriving at what he was doing. When he was approached we didn't think much of it but decided to learn more. After a few months of the interview process we couldn't believe how blessed we were to have such a great opportunity.  Matthew worked hard to prepare for all the interviews and in the end we got the offer. We feel very grateful and look forward to being apart of Sequoia Capital.

As a part of leaving GS, Matthew had a requirement to take 6 weeks of 'garden leave' before he could start his new job. It was great to have him around and to have the chance to do some traveling. We went to Italy for 2 weeks and then Hawaii for a week. We had a blast.

Diane's recent PET scan came back clean. Yay!

Uncle Mark is recovering from his corrective surgery. This was the final step after beating his cancer. So proud of him and all that he has been through.

Z turned 2 and we were both able to fly to Texas for a quick trip to help celebrate.

My hypothyroidism is under control and I am feeling great. My medication boosts my metabolism and gives me the energy I need. It is wonderful to not be tired all the time!

Matthew has been at Seqouia for a about a month now. He is loving all that he is learning and I appreciate having him around a little more. He misses the friends he made at GS but is very happy to have taken the new job.

For me, work is great. Working nights is burning me out BUT it's so fun to see all these little babies being born into the world. L & D is a happy department to be working in and I am grateful for the experience I am getting.

BYU + Update

When we arrived in the land of mountains we headed straight down to Provo for the BYU game, grabbing a J-Dawg along the way of course. The game we attended was absolutely insane.  The Cougars won the game in the last 11 seconds and as you can imagine the BYU fans were going crazy. We almost left early because it wasn't looking to good but we stuck it out and were happy we did.

After the game we headed over to Todd (my cousin) and Meredith's apartment for a quick visit and carmel corn. It was great to see family and catch up. We missed you Adam, Stephanie and Sadie!

It was great/weird being back at BYU. We had some good laughs watching the BYU dating seen. I'm so happy that stage of life is over. Being back on campus was fun but at the same time it felt like I didn't really belong anymore. Maybe because I accomplished all I needed to and have moved on from that part of my life. Either that or I have been in the liberal land of San Francisco for too long. Who knows? I have happy memories at BYU. I learned/experienced many things that shaped me into an adult. I found myself at BYU and because of that it will always be a special place to me.

Enough of that.

Us lately:
  • We are both workaholics. Why?!
  • We are happy.
  • I have been dealing with a torn disc for the past year and finally getting treatment. I'm hoping for some relief soon.
  • My Uncle has finished his chemo/radiation treatments. Once he recovers he can have his final surgery and be on his way to feeling better.
  • Diane's last PET scan in October came back cancer free! She isn't out of the clear yet (probably not for year) but we are happy about the good news. She has another scan in January.
  • Megan (matthew's sister) and Dave moved to Sunnyvale in September. It's a nice change having some sort of family near by.

Miller Time

I figured it was time for another update on our lives. So here it is...

  • Matthew started his Associate position in August. His hours have dramatically changed. He gets home around 10pm which has absolutely been wonderful. Of course I know this won't last forever when he starts back up on live deals.
  • He recently went to Boston and loved it. I want to visit so bad! I would love to live there one day :)
  • I have been working on projects around the house. I reorganized a bunch a stuff, took stuff to storage and gave things to goodwill. It feels so good to de-clutter my apartment!
  • I put all of Matthew's mission letters (well all that I was able to get from his mom) into a binder and working on getting them scanned so we have a digital copy of them.
  • I am currently studying up for the NBSTSA Certification Exam and will be taking it December 20th. Wish me luck!
  • Mom found out she has enchondromas (a benign cartilage tumor that grows on the inside of bone) in her arm. It was a complete fluke that she found it and the doctors say she has had it since childhood. The chance is rare that it will become cancerous but still needs to have yearly checkups for the rest of her life.
  • My Dad was released as Bishop on October 31! He served in this position for our church, the LDS Church, for 7 years and 2 months. This is such a big change for our family. We are so excited to be able to have him around more :)
  • My Uncle Mark (mom's brother) was diagnosed with colon cancer. Our hearts and prayers go out to him and his family. He started chemotherapy October 25.
  • My cousin Kyle is going on a mission to Portugal. Pretty excited for him!
  • My cousin Bianca is pregnant with baby number 4!! Crossing our fingers she has a girl :)
